There are several different ways to go about this and it is up to you which method you choose. You can use traditional metal piping and place the pipes in the walls and hook them up that way. This method is incredibly expensive, but is by far the most reliable. While the total value you invest will not be recouped when you sell your home you will get more value back then any other method.

The next option that you can do is to use PVC piping to fix up connect up you plumbing. This is the easiest to do, easiest to work, and easiest to adjust if need be. It however is not as reliable as traditional plumbing, although significant advances have made the materials much stronger and it has found use in the majority of basement bathroom remodeling projects.

Once you have got the plumbing in picked out and in place you are ready to start your basement bathroom project in earnest. The rest of the project should run similar to a normal bathroom remodel and if you are confident that you can do that, you should be confident you can do this. Basement bathroom remodeling does not have to be complicated and if you have someone help you with all the plumbing work it becomes even more simple.

Vanity and Lavatory Installation

Most of the time the vanity cabinet is the only piece of “furniture” in the bathroom, and  adds a little visual relief from all the other fixtures, faucets, and fittings.A vanity hides the lavatory plumbing and provides very useful storage and countertop space in a room where it is much needed.

The style and design of a vanity, lavatory, and faucet, can really dress up a tired bathroom, and in many cases can be achieved very economically.

If you are replaceing an existing unit, you can use its dimensions as a refrence when planning the new vanity. When figureing the new unit try to stay at least 2″ from the toilet tank, and at least 3″ from the side of the tub.

Also if you can locate the new lavatory within a few inches of the old sink’s centerline. This will allow you to connect to the drain and water lines without haveing to relocate them.

The countertop is usually purchased separately from the base cabinet. This gives a lot of choices for colors, materials, and surface textures to achieve the best looking results.Countertop options are many-ceramic tile ,formica-type plastic laminates, granite, marble, synthetic marble such as corian.

Once the old vanity has been removed, cut a hole in the back of the new cabinet to accomodate the water lines and drain.Center new unit as close to the old one to make hookups easier.Level cabinet front to back and side to side, shimming along the wall where needed, and secure it to wall with 2 to 4 screws driven into wall studs.

Mount the drain and faucet to the lavatory.Installation instructions are provided with the faucet;read and follow them carefully.

Lay a bead of construction adhesive on the top edge of the cabinet, and lower the countertop into place, centering it and pushing the backsplash tight against the wall.

Assemble the trap, useing PVC plastic ,and a flexable trap connector.Attach the faucet water lines useing new flexible risers.if you are unsure about sizes or installation, your loacal hardware store will have plenty of information, to help you.

Bathroom vanities require working to very close tolerances, and in a situation like this ,where an attempt is being made to line up with existing pipes,,careful planning and very accurate measurements are essential.be sure you are absolutely certain of the height of the cabinet, and the depth of the lavatory bowl, and the on-center location of the drain.
